COURSES

Course Dates 2010                       Cost

Both CYA and ISPA require that courses be taken sequentially

We teach people how to cruise under sail as you live onboard your yacht and we voyage to various destinations cruising the coast of B.C.  Our courses are not taught by sailing around in circles and going back to a dock every night.
Your course is part of your cruise -- there is no extra charge -- Instruction, books, and registration is included.
There is an extra charge of $195.00 if you wish to take an additional course on any one cruise.

Intensive - 3 day course - Basic / Comp. Crew - for those people who have extensive sailing experience and are looking for charter certification.   This is done as part of your Intermediate course -- limited to courses of 7 days or more duration.

Basic (Competent Crew) - This is the first certification course. This course puts you in charge. Successful completion of this course allows you to charter smaller boats for day sailing.  The suggested minimum time to complete this course is 5 days.  The 7 day Princess Louisa or 9 day Desolation Sound provides a much more relaxed pace.

Coastal Navigation - Home study programme with practical portions completed during Coastal Skipper course.

Day Skipper (Intermediate) - This is the course that is recognized as the bareboat charter standard and deals with living on a boat.  The 5 day Gulf Islands should be considered the minimum for this course, particularly if the practical portion of the Coastal Nav. is being completed at the same time.  As with the other courses, the 7 day Princess Louisa or 9 day Desolation Sound cruise provide a more relaxed venue.  We can often complete both the Basic and Intermediate standards during the 9 day Desolation Sound cruise

Coastal Skipper  (Advanced) - Major topics covered are night navigation and how to plan a longer distance cruise. The cruises that involve these aspects are the Inside Passage and Van Isle.

Yachtmaster - "The passage maker" - This course bridges the gap between the Advanced and Offshore.  It involves a trip of considerable mileage that includes several days Offshore. Watch keeping, night navigation, spinnaker sailing and the other aspects of extended voyaging.  Our venue for this course is the Van Isle trip witch may include about 400nm offshore.

Offshore - Our Offshore courses are usually part of the VanIsle or Queen Charlotte trips.

Keel Boat Racing - We offer a racing course as part of our fall/winter racing programme.onths.

Please contact us for additional information on any of our programmes.
